Workshops

Workshops will take place on Wednesday 11 September. Delegates will be invited to register for workshops via the online registration form with places allocated on a first come first served basis. Workshops are included for free with the ToScA membership. You must be a conference attendee to register. The workshop day is split into two so you can attend one morning workshop and one afternoon workshop.

Amira-Avizo Software - HeliScan micro CT Workflow (Morning)

Morning Session
This workshop is an introductory course focusing on the capabilities of the combination HeliScan micro CT and the advanced 3D visualization and analysis capabilities of Amira-Avizo Software for exploring and understanding micro CT data. Participants will be offered a complete overview starting from sample mounting, acquisition strategy including trajectories and filtering, reconstruction methods to data visualization, image processing and segmentation, measurements and statistics, and other advanced set of functionalities.

Attendees will have the opportunity to see all steps of the workflow from data collection to the use the software through a hands-on session. Accessible to first-time users.

Please note this workshop is limited to 16 places, available on a first come first served basis.

Dragonfly ORS (Morning)

Morning Session
In the workshop, students will learn the basics of image import, image segmentation, and movie making for tomographic datasets. Students will also learn how to train and apply neural networks for Dragonfly's Deep Learning image segmentation engine. The course will introduce students to the Macro recording and playback tools for batch-processing of datasets.

Please note this workshop is limited to 16 places, available on a first come first served basis.

Digisens (Morning)

Morning Session
You will have a special journey in the heart of CT Data. Starting to the birth of images. We will go through Digisens’ reconstruction engine : filters, iterative non iterative, post and pre treatment it will give you a nice overview of the origin of your data set. Visualization will be the next topic. What I can expect? what are the rendering limitation? And also you will discover Digisens’ secret for giga data rendering (100 Go and more). Next stop will be at the inspection station and the demonstration of compulsory figures : alignment /porosity / wall thickness….and also our finding about metrology and voxel (in collaboration with Hexagon). Coming out of the tunnel the endless landscape of quantification is in front of you. Don’t worry thanks to python and IPSDK library (in collaboration with React’IP) only your imagination will be the limit and our technology let you cross it at full speed. At the end of your journey we will see all the communication tools (report, video) you do have in Digi XCT to share your fantastic user experience.

Host Workshop - Correlative Imaging (Morning)

Morning Session
The correlation of three-dimensional (3D) images from micro-computed tomography (µCT) with two-dimensional (2D) and 3D datasets from other imaging techniques, including light or electron microscopy, allows cellular and sub-cellular structures to be identified and their 3D context to be explored in detail.

This workshop will cover biological sample preparation for correlation with µCT, using immunostained sections of paraffin-embedded tissue or serial block-face scanning electron microscopy protocols. Using images taken from tissue samples, participants will be shown how to register 2D and 3D datasets. Examples of the qualitative and quantitative assessment of correlated image data will be provided in a hands-on session.

The workshop will be held at the Biomedical Imaging Unit at University Hospital Southampton, transport to and from the conference venue will be arranged.

Please note this workshop is limited to 8 places, available on a first come first served basis.
